Managing native and non-native sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) through anthropogenic change: A prospective assessment of key threats and uncertainties

چکیده
Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) is a species of conservation concern in their native range the Atlantic coasts Europe (Near Threatened to Critically Endangered) and North America (Secure Imperiled), an invasive great economic ecological Laurentian Great Lakes. Despite differences life history strategy (anadromous natives vs adfluvial non-natives), biology sea sufficiently similar expect comparable responses large-scale environmental change. We take prospective look at future (50 100 years) management era considerable disturbance, consider biological responses, actions, status populations across non-native ranges. Based on facilitated discussion by diverse group international experts, two major but poorly characterized classes threats were identified: climate change socio-political issues. discuss how induced changes affect growth, bioenergetics, phenology lamprey, associated effects control tactics (pesticides barriers) conservation. tensions surrounding improving connectivity Lakes while controlling supplements alternatives pesticides wider effect, as well new species. To prevent extirpation populations, or re-expansion we conclude with call for ongoing dialogue collaboration among all biologists managers range.

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
15 صفحه اولThe Hemoglobin of the Sea Lamprey, Petromyzon Marinus
The blood hemoglobin of the sea lamprey presents a curious mixture of primitive and highly specialized properties. Like muscle hemoglobin, it has a molecular weight of about 17,000, and apparently contains a single heme. Its isoelectric point is like that of a typical invertebrate hemoglobin. Its amino acid composition is partly characteristic of invertebrate) partly of vertebrate hemoglobins (...
متن کاملGlycoprotein hormone receptors in the sea lamprey Petromyzon marinus.
Secretion of the pituitary glycoprotein hormones (GpH) follitropin, lutropin, and thyrotropin in vertebrates is the main mechanism by which neuroendocrine signals are propagated at the level of the peripheral glands, gonads and thyroid. Receptors of these hormones (glycoprotein hormone receptors, GpH-R) evolved from a common ancestor through gene duplication and subsequent functional divergence...
متن کاملCellular and Molecular Features of Developmentally Programmed Genome Rearrangement in a Vertebrate (Sea Lamprey: Petromyzon marinus)
The sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) represents one of the few vertebrate species known to undergo large-scale programmatic elimination of genomic DNA over the course of its normal development. Programmed genome rearrangements (PGRs) result in the reproducible loss of ~20% of the genome from somatic cell lineages during early embryogenesis. Studies of PGR hold the potential to provide novel ins...
متن کاملIdentification and cloning of a glycoprotein hormone receptor from sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus.
A full-length transcript encoding a functional lamprey glycoprotein hormone receptor I (lGpH-R I, GenBank AY750688) was cloned from the testes of the sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus, using the GpH-R protein fingerprint GLYCHORMONER from the PRINTS database. The present study is the first to identify a GpH-R transcript in an agnathan, which is one of the only two representatives of the oldest li...
